The plight contains a wide range of aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) with two or more condensed benzene rings (about 500). Due to their low volatility, they are not considered VOC (mothballs) except for some exceptions and are classified as semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC). In the PAH atmosphere consisting of three to five rings, it can occur both as gas and particulate, which is characterized by five or more rings, mainly in solid form. They are characterized by low water resolution, adhesion capacities to organic matter and good resolutions in lipids and many organic solvents. Several PAHs are classified by IARC (1987) as “probable” or “possible carcinogens to humans”, benzo (a) piren has recently been reclassified as “carcinogenic to humans” in category 1 (2008). Benzo among those commonly found in environmental matrices (a) piren, benzo (b) floranthene, benzo (k) floranthene, indeno (1,2,3-c, d) piren, benzo (a) anthtraces, benzo (j) fluoranten and dibenzo (a, h) antrasen, chrysene.
